The cats do like this toy but in small doses. The lowest setting is too boring judging by their lack of interest when that mode was going. The highest setting was far too scary and I'm probably going to spend an extra decade in purgatory for laughing at all the times they tried to get away but the random bumping kept sending the ball after them. The middle one is a skosh too fast but acceptable enough that they will play with it for a few minutes before wandering off. I think their favorite part is when it is in a mode that acts like distressed prey. That's when they really go after it. My dad was also entertained watching me chase after it so I could turn it off before supper.This thing so far has survived multiple trips down wooden stairs onto ceramic tile and gotten itself out from under furniture before I could grab it. The soft fabric on the ball is nice for softening its bounce but it absolutely will pick up every stray hair and dust along the way. The photo below is after I made several passes with a lint roller and I know from experience it's going to get grungier over time.Unlike a similar ball I bought previously, this one doesn't have a plastic mesh tail that can be dangerous for cats who like to chew on them. I still wouldn't let the cats play with this unsupervised as the synthetic material in this cloth tail can still be a problem. I would really love it if these came with different types of tails or some kind of doohickey that would allow changing out the tail for something else, like feathers.I recommend turning it off before going to bed because it's easy to forget it's in sleep mode until it starts chirping and thumping down the hallway at 3am.
This is a cute interactive cat toy, and it works well on both carpet and hard floors. We got it for our cat because we’re moving into a new home and wanted more ways to keep her entertained and active indoors.There are some good and bad things with this toy. It does what it says it does: it moves around randomly, has 3 different speed modes, chirps, and is fun to watch as it roams around the room. The tail stays on securely once installed, and the ball does a good job moving around without constantly getting stuck.The chirping sound can get annoying pretty fast, and the highest speed mode is VERY fast. If you need to catch it or turn it off, you may be chasing it around the room for a bit. That mode would probably be great for a kitten or very active cat, but for a more normal house cat, it may be a little much.My biggest complaint is the design for opening and charging it. You have to use the included metal pin, rotate it, and pop the ball open to access the inside. That’s also how you charge it, keep it lubricated, and make sure everything is working properly. It’s not impossible, but it’s more annoying than it should be. The power/mode button is also very small and hard to find, especially if you don’t have a fingernail to press it.For around $20, it feels a little high, but it’s still a fun toy if you have an active cat or kitten that likes chasing moving objects. If your cat is more like ours and gets interested for a little bit before moving on, you may end up turning it off before they fully catch it.
